James Pustejovsky is an Associate Professor and Area Chair of Quantitative Methods in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. His research focuses on advancing statistical methodologies for education and social science research, with a primary emphasis on meta-analysis. He specializes in addressing challenges such as synthesizing dependent effect sizes, detecting publication bias, and analyzing single-case experimental designs. Dr. Pustejovsky collaborates on large-scale research syntheses and contributes to causal inference, research design, and robust statistical methods.
Education: PhD in Statistics from Northwestern University (2013), BA in Economics from Boston College (2003).
Research Interests: Meta-analysis methodologies, statistical computing tools, dependent effect size synthesis, single-case design analysis, and robust variance estimation techniques. His work bridges theoretical statistical advancements with practical applications in educational and behavioral research.
Recent Article Trends: His publications emphasize methodological innovations in meta-analysis, including handling dependent effect sizes, bias detection, and the development of R packages like clubSandwich and SingleCaseES. He also explores interventions for children with autism and behavioral challenges, integrating systematic reviews with statistical rigor.
- Awards:
- Early Career Award from Society for Research Synthesis Methodology (2021)
- Outstanding Quantitative Dissertation (2014)
Grants & Advising: Dr. Pustejovsky leads methodological grants and advises on statistical approaches for educational interventions. His work frequently involves collaborative projects on policy-relevant topics, such as evaluating single-sex schools and college mathematics courses.
Labs/Teams: Active contributor to the development of statistical software tools for meta-analysis and single-case design synthesis, including the SingleCaseES R package.
