James O'Donnell is the Professor in the Practice of Organ and Sacred Music at the Yale School of Music and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. Previously, he served as the organist and master of the choristers at Westminster Abbey for 23 years, overseeing major state events such as the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the funerals of Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother. Internationally renowned, he is a conductor, organist, and director collaborating with ensembles like St James’ Baroque and the BBC Singers. He holds visiting professorships at the Royal Academy of Music and has served as president of the Royal College of Organists (2011–13).
