Associate Professor James Meese is affiliated with RMIT University’s School of Media & Communication, focusing on how media institutions adapt to digital infrastructures, particularly in areas like personalization algorithms, recommendation systems, and the public value of news. His work bridges media studies and telecommunications policy, emphasizing empirical research on regulatory reform and digital infrastructure.
Research Interests: Media and telecommunications policy, journalism studies, algorithmic recommendation systems, institutional change, digital platforms. Supported by significant grants, including an ARC Future Fellowship, his research explores challenges such as personalized news distribution’s societal impacts and platform regulation. His book Digital Platforms and the Press (Intellect) synthesizes these themes.
