James Marton is a Professor of Economics at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, Georgia State University, with affiliations to the Georgia Health Policy Center, Partnership for Urban Health Research, and W.J. Usery Workplace Research Group. He holds a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on health economics, public economics, and applied microeconomics, emphasizing health insurance programs' financing and policy impacts. His work evaluates Medicaid, SNAP, and ACA effects on healthcare access, utilization, and disparities.
Recent studies analyze prescription drug monitoring programs, SNAP's mortality impacts, and Medicaid enrollment dynamics. He previously held roles at the University of Kentucky and Brown University’s Taubman Center.
