James M. Ricles is the Bruce G. Johnston Professor of Structural Engineering at Lehigh University, serving as Director of the Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Center and the NSF-sponsored NHERI Experimental Facility. He holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and a B.S./M.S. from UT Austin. His research focuses on innovative seismic-resistant systems, offshore wind energy structures, and real-time hybrid simulation techniques. He leads large-scale projects with over $50 million in funding and has authored/co-authored nearly 600 publications.
Dr. Ricles' research spans structural dynamics, composite materials, and multi-hazard resilience. His awards include the NSF Presidential Young Investigator Award, NASA Fellowship, and the Raymond C. Reese Prize. He advises students (34 M.S., 33 Ph.D.) and directs labs advancing cyber-physical testing for resilient infrastructure. Current work includes offshore wind turbine simulations and self-centering structural systems.
