James Lamb

Dr. James Lamb is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Medical Physics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Department of Radiation Oncology. He received his PhD in experimental high-energy particle physics from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2009 and completed postdoctoral research at Washington University in St. Louis before joining UCLA in 2010. His career includes leadership roles such as Lead Physicist for UCLA’s ViewRay service (2014-2018), Director of Dosimetry and Planning (2018-2022), and current Vice Chair of Medical Physics.

Dr. Lamb’s research focuses on MRI-guided radiotherapy, deep learning applications in medical imaging, radiation therapy automation, and clinical safety protocols. His work spans prostate cancer, liver tumors, pancreatic cancer, and ocular oncology, with recent projects exploring automated segmentation, error detection, and AI-assisted image review systems. His publications highlight advancements in stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), dosimetric evaluations, and motion management techniques.
