James Howison is an Associate Professor and Interim Associate Dean for Research in the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin. His research explores incentives, coordination, and sociotechnical systems in open source software (OSS) and scientific software ecosystems.
Educated at Syracuse University (PhD, 2009) and the University of Sydney (undergraduate), Howison has contributed to projects like CiteAs, aimed at improving software citation in science. He teaches courses on data wrangling, open source software, and peer production, emphasizing both technical skills and conceptual insights.
