Professor James Gleeson holds the Chair in Industrial and Applied Mathematics at the University of Limerick, serving as director of the SFI Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science and co-director of MACSI (Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry), driving math-driven solutions for economic and societal challenges.
His academic foundation:
- Bachelor's in Mathematical Sciences and Mathematical Physics, University College Dublin
- PhD in Applied Mathematics, Caltech (1999)
Research centers on stochastic dynamics and contagion processes in complex networks, with extensions into data science and industrial applications. His work bridges theoretical mathematics with real-world problem-solving through mathematical modeling.
He leads the SFI Centre training 130+ PhD students in industry-ready data science and directs MACSI's industry-academia collaborations applying mathematics to practical challenges across sectors.
Academic service includes Associate Editorship for the Journal of Complex Networks and editorial board membership at Physical Review E.
