Dr. James Franklin is an Associate Professor at Bournemouth University and Head of the Institute of Medical Imaging and Visualisation. He is a Consultant Gastrointestinal and Hepatopancreaticobiliary Radiologist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with a focus on advanced imaging techniques for cancer staging and tumor biology.

Dr. Franklin’s research spans Medical Imaging, Oncology, and Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration, particularly in MRI applications for gastrointestinal and hepatic cancers. He has led multicenter studies like Sunflower and MOTILITY, integrating imaging with genetics, histopathology, and surgery.
His recent publications (2025–2021) highlight trends in Crohn’s disease imaging, hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance, and MRI-based therapeutic response prediction. Key areas include quantitative motility analysis, LI-RADS classification, and cancer prevention via MRI surveillance.
