James Fahey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Memphis. His research examines threats to democratic systems, focusing on anti-democratic attitudes and behaviors including political misinformation and conspiracy theories.
His work develops and tests interventions to reduce dangerous beliefs among the public. Current projects investigate how populist electoral success influences democratic satisfaction, expressive responding in political surveys, and how framing affects free speech support in cancel culture debates.
Methodologically, Dr. Fahey specializes in survey experiments examining American and Western European political behavior. He teaches courses in American politics, research methods, and political psychology.
