James F. Kimpel serves as Clinical Professor of Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business since 2012, following a 27-year industry career spanning marine outfitting, software consulting, medical devices (Philips Respironics), and heavy equipment (Elliot Group) where he held leadership roles in operations and IT governance.
His research examines enterprise architecture, IT portfolio management, and global supply chain systems with emphasis on cultural impacts during information system implementations. This industry-academia bridge informs his teaching of courses including Strategic Information Systems in Global Supply Chains and Six Sigma Theory and Practice.
Publications from 2014-2022 consistently explore cultural dimensions and critical success factors in global IT implementations, particularly within product lifecycle management contexts, utilizing grounded theory frameworks and case study methodologies to address cross-cultural implementation challenges.
