Dr. James Eglinton is the Meldrum Senior Lecturer in Reformed Theology at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Divinity. He holds LLB (Hons.), BTh (Dist.), and PhD degrees. His research focuses on neo-Calvinism, Reformed theology, and theology’s engagement with linguistic diversity. Notable works include Bavinck: A Critical Biography (2020), which won the Gospel Coalition’s History/Biography Book of the Year, and translations of J.H. Bavinck’s writings. He collaborates with neuroscientist Dr. Thomas Bak on a John Templeton-funded project on theological ethics and bilingualism. Eglinton serves as Associate Editor of Journal of Reformed Theology and contributes to public theology through media engagements.
Education: PhD (Edinburgh), BTh (Glasgow), LLB (Aberdeen). Research interests include Herman Bavinck, Dutch neo-Calvinism, and theological responses to multiculturalism. Awards include recognition for scholarly contributions to religious biography. He speaks English, Scottish Gaelic, Dutch, and French.
