James Earl Davis is a Professor and the Bernard C. Watson Endowed Chair in Urban Education at Temple University’s College of Education and Human Development. He holds affiliate roles in the Department of Africology and African American Studies and the Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies Program. His research focuses on gender equity, racial experiences in education, and urban education policy, with particular attention to Black males’ educational pathways. Davis has received major funding from NSF, HUD, Spencer Foundation, and others.
Education: BA in Sociology (Morehouse College), PhD (Cornell University), post-doctoral study at Educational Testing Service. Notable awards include AERA’s Gender Equity Research Award and Warrior Award for work with Black males.
Teaches graduate courses in higher education theory, research practicum, policy analysis, and critical social science research. His work bridges academia with community through place-based university partnerships and grant-funded initiatives.
