James Eagan serves as a Visiting Professor in the Information Science department. He concurrently holds the position of Associate Professor and chairs the DIVA (HCI & Visualization) laboratory at Télécom Paris, a founding institution of Institut Polytechnique de Paris. His academic leadership extends to chairing the Interaction, Graphics, and Design Masters program in Computer Science and formerly directing the Big Data professional master’s program.
His educational background includes:
- B.A. in Mathematics/Computer Science from Lawrence University of Wisconsin
- M.S. in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology
- Ph.D. in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology
Dr. Eagan's research centers on malleable systems that dynamically adapt to user workflows and information sensemaking methodologies for complex data environments. His work bridges Human-Computer Interaction and Visualization domains, emphasizing user-centered design for evolving analytical tasks. He maintains active contributions to premier venues including ACM CHI, UIST, and IEEE VIS conferences.
As director of the DIVA laboratory, he oversees research in interactive data systems and visualization techniques. His program leadership has significantly shaped curriculum development in both the Interaction, Graphics, and Design Masters and Big Data professional programs, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to information science education.
