Dr. James DeClerck is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Michigan Technological University. He holds a PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Michigan Tech (1991) and has over 30 years of industry experience, including roles as a Project Design Engineer at General Motors' Noise and Vibration Center. His expertise spans noise/vibration engineering, structural dynamics, model validation, and advanced measurement techniques. He advises the Michigan Tech Formula SAE Team and teaches courses such as System Dynamics, Vibrations, and Analytical Vibro-Acoustics.

Research interests include model validation, digital data processing, robust engineering design, and system noise/vibration optimization. His work emphasizes bridging analytical models with real-world testing, particularly in automotive and aerospace applications. He has contributed to advancements in vibration analysis tools and substructuring methodologies.
Publications focus on vibration testing, modal analysis, and shock response methodologies, with recent work exploring multi-axis testing and controller performance evaluation. He is a member of SAE and the Society for Experimental Mechanics (former President).
