James D. Paron is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB). He holds a PhD in Finance (2025) and a BS in Economics (2019), both from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on asset pricing, macroeconomics, and household finance, particularly how firm and household heterogeneity influence the macroeconomy. He has examined long-run structural changes in asset prices, economic growth dynamics, and wealth inequality trends.
Paron’s education includes dual degrees from Wharton, where he also received prestigious fellowships such as the Wharton Doctoral Fellowship (2019–2025) and the Jacobs Levy Dissertation Fellowship (2022–2023). His recent awards include the Top Finance Graduate Award (2025) and the Brattle Group’s Outstanding Research Award (2025).
His working papers explore topics like sovereign default mechanisms, associative learning in financial decisions, and wealth disparities between racial groups. He serves as a journal reviewer for the Journal of Finance and Journal of Monetary Economics.
Paron’s research emphasizes linking microeconomic household behaviors to macroeconomic outcomes, with a focus on policy-relevant questions such as wealth inequality and structural shifts in asset markets.
