James Chrobak is a Professor and Associate Department Head of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Connecticut. He specializes in behavioral neuroscience and hippocampal physiology, focusing on neuronal synchronization and its role in episodic memory formation. His research explores how environmental factors, behavior, and pharmacological interventions influence hippocampal dynamics across its septotemporal axis.
Dr. Chrobak holds a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1988). His teaching includes General Psychology (Psyc 1100) and Physiological Psychology (PSYC 2200).
His research interests center on the hippocampus’s role in memory, including how theta and gamma oscillations are modulated by novel environments and stimuli. He has contributed to studies on developmental age effects on hippocampal parvalbumin cells and the interplay between locomotor activity and theta rhythms.
Chrobak serves on grant review panels for NIH’s NINDS and BRAIN Initiative, reviews for journals like JNeuroscience and Hippocampus, and advises the National Scientific Advisory Council for AFAR. His expertise bridges neurophysiology, behavioral studies, and cognitive neuroscience.
