Dr. James Camara is a Clinical Associate Professor of Chemistry and Director of Pre-Health Advising at Yeshiva University. He holds a PhD from Columbia University (2009) and a BS from the University of Rochester (2004). His postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois focused on hydrogenase enzymes. He co-chairs the Inorganic/Organometallic Topical Group of the New York ACS section.
Research interests center on organometallic and inorganic chemistry applied to alternative energy, particularly organometallic catalysis for energy technologies. His work is funded by the Petroleum Research Fund. Recent courses include Scientific Literacy, Advanced Laboratory Techniques, and Research in Chemistry.
Publications span hydrogenase enzyme studies, catalytic hydrogen production, and zirconium-catalyzed reactions. Notable collaborations include work on biomimetic models for [FeFe]-hydrogenase active sites. Teaching emphasizes both foundational and advanced chemistry laboratory practices.
His advisory role supports pre-health students through academic and professional guidance. Research labs focus on synthesizing functional metal complexes and studying their catalytic applications.
