James C. McWilliams is a Professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), holding the Louis B. Slichter Professor of Earth Sciences title since 1994. He maintains a part-time appointment at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). His work focuses on fluid dynamics of Earth's oceans and atmosphere, integrating theoretical and computational modeling. Key research areas include climate dynamics, vortex dynamics, and coastal ocean modeling. McWilliams has developed a 3D simulation model for the U.S. West Coast, addressing physical, biogeochemical, and sediment transport processes.
