James C. McCrery, II serves as Associate Professor at Catholic University of America's School of Architecture and Planning, directing the Concentration in Classical Architecture and Urbanism. He is founding principal of McCrery Architects specializing in civic, religious, and institutional projects, and served as Presidential Appointee on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (2019-2024).
His education includes Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture from Ohio State University, with undergraduate focus on modernist/formalist theory evolving into graduate studies under Peter Eisenman on Post-modernist/Deconstructivist design. After recommitting to Classical Architecture through mentorship with Allan M. Greenberg, he established his practice.
McCrery's research centers on Classical Architecture traditions, particularly Roman Catholic Church design. His built works appear at the U.S. Capitol, Supreme Court, and Knoxville Cathedral, featured in New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post. He teaches Comprehensive Building Design Studio, Architectural Theory, History, Construction, and Professional Practice courses.
