James Bruner is an Instructor and Executive Director of the Maguire Academy of Risk Management and Insurance at Gallaudet University since August 2015. He holds a BS from Rochester Institute of Technology (1976), MS from Rollins College (1978), and DBA (ABD) from Rollins College (2020). Prior to academia, he spent 30 years in the insurance industry with firms like Wausau Insurance Companies and Arthur J. Gallagher, holding roles such as Account Executive and Area Vice President.
- Teaches courses including RMI-206 Emerging Risks and RMI-201 Intro to Risk Management & Insurance
- Active in curriculum development and industry partnerships, hosting guest lectures from professionals like Red Cross Risk Managers
- Mentor for undergraduate students and advisor with 12 advisees in 2020
His career began with a unique experience as part of RIT's first NTID dorm cohort, where he learned ASL and advocated for deaf-hearing integration. He remains a leader in the CPCU Society and other industry organizations.
