He completed House Officer appointments in Glasgow and a Senior House Officer position in Newcastle before becoming a Dall Research Fellow at Glasgow Dental Hospital, where he earned his PhD in Applied Dental Material Science in July 1994. He also obtained his FDSRCPS(Glas) during this period.
Dr. Scott's research focuses on dental materials science, biofilm research in endodontics, and dental education. His work examines the properties and applications of dental biomaterials, particularly calcium silicate-based materials and chitosan applications. He has made significant contributions to understanding biofilm formation and management in endodontic infections. More recently, his research has addressed innovations in dental education, particularly virtual assessment methods developed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Scott's publications demonstrate a strong trajectory in dental biomaterials research with a recent expansion into educational innovations. His work spans from fundamental material science investigations to practical clinical applications and educational methodologies.
