James A. Rappold is an Adjunct Lecturer of Operations at the Crummer Graduate School of Business, Rollins College. Previously, he held roles as a professor and director of Supply Chain Management and Transportation programs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business, and was an industrial engineering faculty member at its College of Engineering. He currently serves as President and CEO of Supply Chain Sciences, a consultancy specializing in advanced decision support software. His research focuses on complex manufacturing and distribution networks, inventory optimization, and ERP systems. Dr. Rappold holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Cornell University and a B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University.
His expertise spans supply chain management, service parts optimization, demand forecasting, and data science applications. He has advised organizations like BASF, Coca-Cola, and the US Air Force. Notable awards include the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award and School of Business Professor of the Year.
His work bridges academia and industry, emphasizing practical problem-solving. He has published influential research in Operations Research and Information Systems Frontiers. Beyond academia, he is a Master Sommelier, avid scuba diver, and programmer, with a passion for travel and family.
