James A. MacKenzie

James A. MacKenzie is Professor and Department Chair of Biological Sciences at SUNY Oswego. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from Wake Forest University, M.S. in Biology from Western Carolina University, and B.S. in Biology from SUNY Fredonia.

Research areas include:

• Environmental heavy metals and cardiovascular changes in children
• Effects of PCBs on aquatic organisms
• Intracellular protein trafficking to mitochondria
• Specialty areas: molecular/cellular biology, physiology, human health

He has supervised numerous undergraduate and graduate researchers in environmental health projects. Publications demonstrate expertise in:

• Linking environmental exposures to cardiovascular and neurological outcomes
• Developing biomarkers for heavy metal exposure
• Stress physiology and environmental toxicology interactions

Recent work focuses on perfluoroalkyl substances and metal mixtures in child populations. Methodologies include biomonitoring, proteomics, and physiological assessments.
