Jakob Wirén is an Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies, Lund University, specializing in interreligious dialogue and theology of religions with a focus on Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. He chairs the research seminar 'Global Christianity and Interreligious Relations' and works on projects examining cemeteries as interreligious spaces. Wirén is also a licensed high school teacher and contributes to religious didactics through publications like Utmaningsdriven undervisning (2017). His doctoral work, Hope and Otherness: Christian Eschatology and Interreligious Hospitality (2013), forms a cornerstone of his research.
His academic contributions span interfaith councils, burial laws, and theological responses to antisemitism. Wirén actively engages in church education as the theological advisor to the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden, working nationally from Uppsala. Current research explores the intersections of death rituals, religious pluralism, and secularization in Scandinavia.
Recent publications analyze interreligious dynamics in post-conflict scenarios, burial legislation, and theological literacy. Collaborations include festscriften for Archbishop Antje Jackelén and critiques of ecumenical movements during war. His teaching includes the advanced course KRMR12: Church and Mission Studies.
