Jaimey Hamilton Faris is an Associate Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, affiliated with the College of Arts and Humanities and the Department of Art and Art History. Her research focuses on contemporary art, critical theory, and environmental studies with a regional emphasis on the Asia-Pacific. She holds a PhD and MA from Boston University and a BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Faris is affiliated with Pacific Islands Studies, International Cultural Studies, and the Institute for Sustainability and Resilience. She contributes to research groups including the Political Ecology Research Group, Liquid Futures, and FERN (Feminist Environmental Research Network). Her work explores global infrastructures, ecologies, and artistic responses to climate change, decolonization, and translocal cultural dynamics.
Her recent publications include Inundation: Art and Climate Change in the Pacific (2020) and articles on feminist environmental performance art and hydro-feminism in Oceania. Faris has earned awards for teaching excellence and research, alongside grants from institutions like the Japan Foundation and Hawaii Council for the Humanities. She teaches courses on critical theory, global art histories, and eco-art, emphasizing interdisciplinary and decolonial approaches.
