Jaime Pérez González is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), affiliated with the College of Letters and Science. His research focuses on morphology, syntax, and semantics with a special emphasis on Mayan languages, including language documentation, revitalization, and ethical methodologies in linguistic fieldwork. He holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin (2021), an MA from El Colegio de México (2012), and a BA in Hispanic Language and Literatures from Universidad Michoacana (2009).
His research explores the interplay between morphology, syntax, and semantics in agglutinative languages, particularly in underdocumented Mayan varieties like Mocho’. Projects include a descriptive grammar of Mocho’, language preservation initiatives, and the development of Tseltal language tools.
