Jaime Pons Morro

Jaime Pons Morro is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he teaches in the College of Science. He has been a faculty member since 1994 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2011. His academic roles include Director of the Master's Degree in Advanced Physics and Applied Mathematics since 2016 and former Director of the Master's in Physics (2008–2014).

His research focuses on solid-state phase transitions in conventional and magnetic shape memory alloys, with specialization in structural and microstructural characterization using conventional and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. His work is conducted within the Physics of Materials (FISMAT) research group at UIB.

Over his career, he has contributed to 24 competitive research projects—16 from the Spanish government (6 as Principal Investigator), 3 from the EU, and 5 from regional governments—and co-authored 160 peer-reviewed journal articles in fields such as Materials Science, Applied Physics, and Physical Metallurgy. His publications reflect a strong trend in materials characterization and functional materials development.

He has supervised 5 PhD theses and currently advises students in the PhD in Physics program. He has taught a wide range of courses including Solid State Physics, Materials I, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, and Master's Thesis supervision across multiple graduate programs.

Administrative and professional service includes:

• Treasurer, Executive Board, Spanish Microscopy Society (2007–2017)

He leads the Materials Physics (FISMAT) Consolidated R+D+I Group as Main Researcher, focusing on material properties and advanced characterization techniques.
