Jaime Lara is an Associate Professor at the Université de Montréal's School of Public Health, affiliated with the Department of Environmental Health and Occupational Health. His office is located at Pavillon Marguerite-d’Youville (local 7094). Contact him via email (jaime.lara@umontreal.ca) or phone (514-343-6111 #52179).
Research Focus: Professor Lara's expertise spans occupational safety, emphasizing respiratory protection against chemical and nanoparticle hazards. He develops theoretical models to predict the service life of respirator cartridges and assesses material resistance to toxic substances. Key areas include:
- Optimization of respirator performance under environmental stressors
- Permeation dynamics of organic vapors through protective materials
- Nanoparticle risk mitigation in industrial settings
Publications & Contributions: His research consistently addresses gaps in protective equipment efficacy, with publications in occupational health journals and practical guides adopted in Quebec. Works emphasize empirical validation of safety protocols and predictive modeling for industrial applications.
Grants & Supervision: He led an IRSST-funded project (2016–2019) analyzing acid gas respirator cartridges. He advised Ph.D. candidate Florence Janvier (2018) on respirator cartridge modeling.
