Jaime David Mora Paz is a Research Fellow at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, University of Texas at Austin, and holds a concurrent faculty position at Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz in Bogota, Colombia since 2022. He returned to the Oden Institute in 2024-2025 to collaborate on finite element simulations of optical fibers.
His academic background includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, followed by Master's and PhD degrees in Computational Science, Engineering and Mathematics from the Oden Institute at UT Austin. His 2020 dissertation, supervised by Professor Leszek Demkowicz, focused on "PolyDPG: a discontinuous Petrov-Galerkin methodology for polytopal meshes with applications to elasticity".
Dr. Mora Paz specializes in developing numerical methods for complex scientific applications, with core expertise in finite element discretizations for multiphysics systems. His research integrates functional analysis and error estimation techniques to address challenges in classical mechanics and electromagnetics, emphasizing computational performance optimization for nonlinear models. Current work includes advancing polytopal mesh methodologies for engineering simulations.
He actively contributes to the Electromagnetics and Acoustics Group at the Oden Institute, where his collaborative projects bridge theoretical mathematics with practical engineering implementations. His 2024-2025 research on optical fiber simulations demonstrates applied focus in computational electromagnetics.
