Jaime Almandoz

Jaime Almandoz, M.D., M.B.A., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Medical Director of the Weight Wellness Program. He specializes in endocrinology, focusing on interdisciplinary weight management, post-bariatric outcomes, and obesity care disparities. Dr. Almandoz earned his M.D. from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, completed residency at Mater Misericordiae Hospital, and fellowships at Mayo Clinic and UT Southwestern. He holds an M.B.A. from UT Dallas/UT Southwestern.

His research explores bariatric surgery outcomes, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and the interplay between obesity and cardiometabolic health. Notable contributions include studies on pandemic-era telehealth utilization for obesity management and the role of social determinants in surgical candidate recruitment.

Professional leadership includes roles as Vice Chair of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology's Nutrition and Obesity Network, and board membership with The Obesity Society. His work emphasizes improving access to evidence-based obesity treatments through policy advocacy and clinical innovation.
