Jaime Acosta is a Visiting Professor and ARL South Visiting Researcher affiliated with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UTEP (2009). As the Army Research Laboratory South Site lead, he collaborates with faculty, federal agencies, and industry partners to address cybersecurity challenges through innovation exercises, hackathons, and advanced research. His work focuses on autonomous cyber defense, malware analysis, and cybersecurity deception systems.
Dr. Acosta’s research interests include cybersecurity data curation, systemic honeypots, and moving target defense strategies. He contributes to securing critical cyber-physical infrastructures and IoT environments. His publications highlight advancements in blockchain-based battlefield IoT security, network fuzzing tools, and analyst-centric cybersecurity training platforms.
He teaches courses such as CS4351 (Computer Security), CS4177 (Software Vulnerabilities), and CS4379/CS5375 (Software Reverse Engineering). His collaborations emphasize bridging academia and industry to tackle emerging cybersecurity threats. He has developed methodologies for threat analysis, risk modeling, and secure communication protocols.
