Professor Jahangir Hossain is a leading academic in electrical and energy systems at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where he holds a Professorship in the School of Electrical and Data Engineering since January 2022. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor at UTS (2019–2023), Macquarie University (2016–2019), and Griffith University (2012–2016). His career includes roles as a Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, and Research Fellow at various Australian institutions, alongside academic positions at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology in Bangladesh (2005–2011).
He earned a B.Sc. (2001) and M.Sc. (2005) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Rajshahi University, followed by a Ph.D. (2010) from the University of New South Wales. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from Griffith University (2014).
His research focuses on renewable energy integration, microgrids, smart grids, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems. He has led numerous funded projects, including Horizon Europe initiatives and industry collaborations. Teaching responsibilities include courses like Introduction to Sustainable Microgrids and Electrical Power and Energy Systems Studio. His work emphasizes practical solutions for energy resilience, sustainability, and grid modernization.
Notable grants include projects on AI-driven grid systems, hydrogen storage, and community microgrid design. His research outputs span over 400 publications, addressing challenges in energy management, cybersecurity, and renewable integration.
