Jae Wan Park

Professor Jae Wan Park is a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Davis. He leads the Green Technology Laboratory (GTL), which focuses on sustainable energy systems, including proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries. His research emphasizes optimizing energy storage and conversion technologies for transportation and electrical grids.

The GTL comprises two specialized groups: the Fuel Cell Lab, which develops advanced PEM fuel cells using new materials and flow field designs, and the Battery Lab, which repurposes electric vehicle (EV) batteries for stationary energy storage. This work addresses both economic and environmental challenges in renewable energy adoption.

Key technical interests include in-situ diagnosis via neutron radiography, water management in PEM fuel cells, and high-energy density storage system design. His team has contributed to innovations recognized in competitions, such as a 2019 Big Ideas Contest win for a MAE Energy Startup.
