Jacqui Hutchison is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Aberdeen, where she serves as the Undergraduate Programme Coordinator for Psychology. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Aberdeen (2015) and an MA in Psychology from the same institution (2011). Her research focuses on social cognition, particularly stereotype formation, self-processing biases, and gender stereotype development. She co-leads the Person Perception Lab and Gender Stereotypes Lab, investigating how stereotypes evolve via cultural transmission and influence adolescent academic choices. Her pedagogical work emphasizes widening participation in higher education, including the role of lecture recordings in supporting diverse learners.
Membership affiliations include the British Psychological Society (chartered psychologist) and Senior Fellow status with Advance HE. Her teaching spans introductory psychology through to thesis supervision at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Recent publications (2021–2025) explore self-reference effects in ADHD, cultural evolution of stereotypes, and emotion categorization influenced by social categories. Her work bridges cognitive psychology, social psychology, and educational policy, with a focus on applying research to improve learning outcomes and combat gender stereotypes in education.
