Jacques Tys serves as Prince Consort Professor of Oboe at the Royal College of Music, appointed in September 2012. He simultaneously holds professorships at Hochschule de Karlsruhe in Germany and Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris since 1998, while maintaining his position as Principal-soloist of the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris since 1990.
His formal education commenced at the Conservatoire National de Région de Reims, followed by advanced studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris under Prof. Pierre Pierlot, where he earned Premier Prix in oboe in 1984. He further refined his artistry through consultations with renowned oboists Maurice Bourgue and Thomas Indermühle.
Professor Tys specializes in oboe performance technique, chamber music interpretation, and orchestral repertoire. His international performance career spans major venues across five continents, with notable appearances at France's Festival de Radio France, Tokyo's Casals Hall and Bunka Kaikan with Trio Forlane, Scandinavia's Bodoe Ost Festival, and North American festivals including Domaine Forget and IDRS Thalaassee. His recordings with Deutsche Grammophon under Myung Whun Chung represent significant contributions to the orchestral discography.
His distinguished career includes these major honors:

- Premier Prix in oboe from CNSMDP (1984)
As an educator, Professor Tys regularly conducts masterclasses at elite institutions worldwide including Florida State University (Thalaassee), Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai), and Domaine Forget Music Academy in Canada. His pedagogical approach integrates performance practice with historical context, emphasizing both technical excellence and musical expression. At the Royal College of Music, he leads the oboe program within the Woodwind Faculty, shaping the next generation of professional musicians through rigorous training and performance opportunities.
Professor Tys co-founded the Orchestre Français des Jeunes in 1995, demonstrating his commitment to nurturing emerging talent. His dual career as both active performer and educator provides students with invaluable insights into the professional music world, bridging academic training with real-world performance demands.
