Jacques Du Plessis is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee since 2002. He specializes in instructional technologies, information security, and online education models. His work focuses on sustainable approaches to teaching less commonly taught languages, disruptive technologies, and circular economy frameworks for smart cities. He launched UWM's first online Afrikaans course and led numerous South Africa study abroad programs.
Education: PhD in Instructional Technology (Utah State University, 2002), MA and BA in Linguistics (Brigham Young University, 1992/1989). He serves as President of the Association of Genealogy Educators and Schools, and previously led the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages. Current research includes early math/music education and a forthcoming book on education's macro-objectives.
Research interests span open courseware development (e.g., Afrikaans.us), knowledge management systems, and innovative educational technologies. His work bridges pedagogical theory with practical implementation in diverse cultural contexts.
