Jacques Deguise is an Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal. He holds the Marie-Lou et Yves Cotrel Chair in Orthopedic Research at CHUM and collaborates with the École de technologie supérieure. His research focuses on 3D imaging and modeling of musculoskeletal and vascular systems, with applications in computer-assisted surgery, movement analysis, and clinical evaluation of pathologies like scoliosis, arthritis, and vascular aneurysms.
- Affiliations: CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM), Centre de recherche Azrieli du CHU Sainte-Justine
His work includes developing surgical navigation tools, analyzing spinal and joint biomechanics, and evaluating orthopedic interventions. He has supervised over 10 graduate students since 1994, focusing on topics like knee kinematics, spinal balance modeling, and arthroplasty techniques. Deguise has led or co-led multiple research projects funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS), CHUM Foundation, and École de technologie supérieure.
Notable projects include studies on CT-based spinal navigation, Achilles tendon ultrastructure quantification, and the impact of viscosupplementation on arthritic knees. His interdisciplinary approach bridges medicine, computer science, and engineering to improve surgical precision and patient outcomes.
