Jacqueline Lee

Jacqueline Lee serves as Professor and Chair of the Biology Department at Nassau Community College, actively participating in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program, a national initiative integrating authentic genomic research into undergraduate education.

Her research focuses on bacteriophage genomics and evolutionary biology, with key areas including:

• Phage discovery and annotation
• Genomic analysis of bacteriophages
• Evolutionary mechanisms in microbial systems
• Undergraduate research pedagogy in microbiology
• Bioinformatics education
• Microbial ecology

Through SEA-PHAGES, Dr. Lee contributes to a collaborative network engaging students in hands-on genomic research, utilizing HHMI-funded resources for phage isolation, sequencing, and annotation. She participates in program events including the 2025 Phage Genomics Workshop and 2026 SEA Symposium, advancing national science education initiatives.

Her leadership in the Biology Department drives curriculum development centered on experiential learning in genomic sciences, connecting classroom instruction with real-world research through the SEA framework.
