Jacqueline Giovanniello, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Her research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying learning, decision-making, and behavioral control, including transitions between goal-directed and habitual strategies. She combines advanced systems neuroscience techniques with behavioral paradigms in mice to study these processes.
Education:
- PhD in Biology/Neuroscience from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
- Sc.B. in Human Biology from Brown University
Research Overview: The Giovanniello lab investigates how chronic stress, drugs of abuse, and genetic alterations modulate neural circuits governing behavioral control. Their work aims to establish a foundation for studying maladaptive behavioral mechanisms in psychiatric conditions like substance use disorders, autism, anxiety, and OCD.
Scientific Awards & Honors:
- NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00)
- A.P. Giannini Postdoctoral Fellowship
- UCLA Brain Research Institute Scheibel Distinguished Fellow Award
- NIH NRSA F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship
Professional Memberships: Society for Neuroscience, International Behavioral Neuroscience Society, Pavlovian Society.
