Jacqueline Emery is an Associate Professor and Chair of the English Department at Old Westbury, part of the School of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Temple University. Her research focuses on 19th- and early 20th-century American literature, with specializations in Native American literature, women’s literature, and periodical studies. She teaches courses ranging from foundational English composition to advanced seminars on major authors and Native American literature.
Dr. Emery’s scholarship emphasizes recovering marginalized voices through archival work in historical periodicals. Her edited book Recovering Native American Writings in the Boarding School Press (2017) highlights Indigenous students’ contributions to institutional newspapers. She has also published articles in American Periodicals and Legacy, exploring themes like Native American women’s editorial roles and Alice Dunbar-Nelson’s journalistic activism.
Her academic service includes departmental leadership, course coordination, and ongoing peer-review contributions. She maintains an active presence in literary scholarship through book reviews (e.g., for MELUS) and pedagogical engagement at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
