Jacob Melnick is an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy and serves as the Director of Clinical Education in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Hawai'i Pacific University, within the Graduate College of Health Sciences. He is based in Honolulu, HI, and remains actively involved in both academic and clinical roles.
His educational background includes a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of Georgia, a DPT from Texas State University, and he is currently completing a DHSc (Doctor of Health Science) at A.T. Still University. He also completed a residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy.
Dr. Melnick specializes in orthopedic physical therapy with a focus on athletic populations, including distance runners, triathletes, and surfers. His clinical and research interests span injury prevention, clinical education, dry needling, functional restoration, and pain management. He has presented at state, regional, and national conferences on these topics, contributing to evidence-based practice and student performance in clinical settings.
He holds professional certifications as a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a dry needling practitioner, and a USA Track and Field Level 1 Coach. His leadership extends to the American Physical Therapy Association, where he has served as Public Relations Chairman for APTA Mississippi and currently contributes to the education and legislative committees for APTA Hawaii.
Dr. Melnick has extensive clinical experience, having worked at Tripler Army Medical Center and directed the military’s largest DPT internship program at Keesler Air Force Base. He continues to practice locally and provides consultative and mentorship services at OrthoSport Hawaii. His work bridges clinical excellence, academic instruction, and professional advocacy in physical therapy.
