Jacob Gustafsson is a researcher at Linnaeus University's Faculty of Health and Life Sciences within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science. His work focuses on biosignatures in Earth's ancient deep biosphere, specifically studying fractured cratonic rocks and meteorite impact structures.
His research spans Deep Biosphere, Geobiology, and Isotope Geochemistry, examining carbon and sulfur isotopes in calcite and pyrite crystals from drill core samples. This work investigates microbial life in Earth's oldest cratons and impact structures to understand life's origin and development on Earth and potentially other planetary bodies. His primary project Deep Life in Deep Time explores ancient evolutionary lineages in Earth's largest microbial habitat.
