Jacob Berkowitz is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Oceanography & Coastal Sciences at Louisiana State University's College of the Coast & Environment and a Research Soil Scientist with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). His office is located at 2247 ECE Building.
Education:
- B.S. Environmental Studies, University of North Carolina, Asheville
- M.S. Soil and Water Science, University of California, Riverside
- Ph.D. Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, Louisiana State University
Research Interests: Dr. Berkowitz's work centers on hydric soils, wetland assessment, biogeochemistry, forested wetlands, restoration techniques, and sustainable use of dredged sediments. His research integrates field studies with environmental modeling to enhance wetland conservation and management.
Publications: His recent articles (2023-2025) focus on carbon dynamics in wetlands, impacts of flooding on soil functions, coastal sediment management, and military-wildlife interactions. Emerging themes include climate resilience, carbon sequestration optimization, and innovative wetland delineation methods.
Advising: He mentors graduate students including M.K. Bartholomew and C. Duball, co-authoring publications on wetland hydrology and soil analysis.
