Jacob Agerbo Rasmussen is a Postdoc researcher at the University of Copenhagen's Globe Institute, specifically within the Section for Hologenomics. With a strong background in molecular and evolutionary biology, he applies advanced molecular tools to investigate microbiome-host interactions across various omics approaches including genomics, metagenomics, and metabolomics.
His educational background includes a BA in Biology (2013-2016) and an MSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics (2016-2018), both from the University of Copenhagen. Prior to his current position, he worked as a Research Assistant at NTNU in Norway (2018-2019) and completed his PhD as a Fellow in Genome Research and Molecular Bio Medicine at the University of Copenhagen.
Rasmussen's research focuses on deciphering molecular interactions within holobionts, with particular emphasis on sustainable livestock production systems, especially aquaculture. His work leverages metagenome sequencing technologies to understand and modify healthy microbiomes in fish and other production animals. His expertise spans both fundamental evolutionary biology and applied biotechnology approaches.
His publication record demonstrates significant contributions to the field of hologenomics, with numerous high-impact articles in 2024-2025 covering diverse aspects of host-microbe interactions across multiple biological systems including fish, insects, and traditional fermented foods. His research shows a clear trajectory toward developing molecular-based management tools for sustainable food production.
- MSc Project grant from Evogenomics (2018)
Rasmussen maintains active collaborations across multiple institutions as evidenced by his co-authorship on diverse projects. His work bridges fundamental research with practical applications in sustainable food production systems, particularly through the HoloFood initiative which has developed data portals for analyzing host-microbiota interactions in animal production.
His research is conducted within the Section for Hologenomics at the Globe Institute, where he contributes to advancing the understanding of holobiont systems through integrated omics approaches. His work connects evolutionary biology with contemporary challenges in sustainable food production, particularly through the development of microbiome-based interventions for aquaculture and livestock systems.
