Jackie Tileston serves as Professor of Fine Arts in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design, where she investigates the contemporary sublime and states of being through innovative painting practices.
Her educational background includes a B.A. from Yale University and an M.F.A. from Indiana University, forming the foundation for her pioneering artistic research.
Tileston's work constructs heterotopic spaces using recombinant strategies and nomadic thinking to challenge conventional perceptions of identity and space. Her complex visual language explores transcendent experiences within modern existence, blending theoretical depth with material experimentation in oil and mixed media.
She has received exceptional recognition including:
- Core Fellowship Residency (1988-90)
- Pew Fellowship in the Arts (2004)
- Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Residency (2005)
- Guggenheim Fellowship (2006)
- Joan Mitchell Foundation Award (2011)
Tileston maintains an active exhibition profile with solo shows in Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia, and Dallas, alongside group exhibitions at prestigious venues including the Contemporary Arts Museum (Houston), Art in General (New York), and the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. Her notable 2014 work "Field Guide to Elsewhere" (oil and mixed media on linen, 60" x 72") exemplifies her exploration of spatial dislocation and visual complexity.
