Jackie Price is a Professor of Molecular Epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh's Usher Institute, part of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. She leads major research initiatives including the Edinburgh Type 2 Diabetes Study and chairs the NESSIE Evidence Synthesis Group. Her work focuses on vascular disease, diabetes complications, and cognitive decline, with international collaborations in genomics and metabolomics. She has held leadership roles such as Deputy Director of the Usher Institute (2021-2024) and co-ordinates large-scale studies like the AAA Trial and UCLEB consortium.
Education: BSc (Med Sci) 1990, MB ChB 1992, MD 2001, FFPH 2006, FRCPE. Appointed to the University of Edinburgh in 1994, progressing through roles including Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Public Health.
Research Interests: Molecular epidemiology of cardiovascular and diabetic complications, epigenetic mechanisms, and translational genomics. Her teams investigate retinal traits, metabolomics, and precision medicine approaches to risk prediction in diabetes. She supervises PhD/MRes students and leads systematic reviews for Cochrane Vascular.
Grants & Leadership: Principal Investigator for NIHR-funded NESSIE group (2023-2028) and UCLEB genomic studies. Active in global health initiatives like Cochrane Heart Stroke and Circulation Thematic Group. Trains physicians and chairs postgraduate research committees.
Labs/Teams: Molecular Epidemiology Research Group, Centre for Cognitive Aging and Epidemiology, and the NESSIE Evidence Synthesis Group.
