Dr. Jackie Eunjung Relyea is an Assistant Professor of Literacy Education at North Carolina State University's College of Education. She holds leadership roles as Co-Director of The Literacy Space, Director of The CLICK Lab (Cultivating Literacy, Inquiry, and Content Knowledge), and Faculty Associate at Harvard's READS Lab. Her research focuses on evidence-based literacy interventions for multilingual students, particularly English learners, with emphases on reading comprehension, writing outcomes, and content-area literacy. Her work is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), AERA-NSF, and CZI, among others. Dr. Relyea's scholarly contributions span journals like Journal of Educational Psychology and Child Development.
Her education includes a Ph.D. in Literacy Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Research interests include elementary-grade literacy education, multilingual learners, teacher education, and quantitative methods. Awards include the 2024 Jerry Johns Promising Researcher Award and the 2021 NC State Impact Scholar designation.
Dr. Relyea teaches courses such as ECI 709 (Developing Language and Literacy for Multilingual Students) and ECI 541 (Content Area Literacy). Her labs and teams focus on translational research bridging theory and practice in literacy education. Notable grants include studies on content literacy interventions, pandemic-era instructional modalities, and socio-scientific inquiry for multilingual learners.
