His research focuses on far-right conspiracy theories, digital cultures, and the intersections of memory, temporality, and technological form. Wilson has published widely on QAnon, extremism, and online subcultures, with contributions to journals like A Peer Reviewed Journal About and edited volumes such as Critical Meme Reader. He actively reviews for academic journals including New Media & Society and Journal for the Academic Study of Religion.
- Education: MA (Digital Media & Culture) from CIM, BA (Digital Cultures & Australian Literature) from University of Sydney
Wilson's research interests explore how infrastructures shape extremist movements, particularly through analyzing QAnon's 'do your own research' ethos and the materiality of digital conspiracy platforms like 8chan. His work intersects media studies, sociology, and critical theory, with a focus on antagonistic online milieus. Beyond academia, he produces electronic music under the alias 'West Mids' and runs the label DOOMSCROLL.
His publications consistently address transnational extremism, digital radicalization, and the cultural production of 'extremely online' communities. Recent work highlights the role of 'minor tech' in counter-revolutionary tactics and the transcoding of radical political subcultures across platforms.
- Grants: Chancellor’s International Scholarship (University of Warwick, 2020-2024)
Wilson has presented at conferences including ESRC MGS DTP 2023 and Transmediale, exploring themes like agnotology in QAnon and the 'dark side of digital societies.' His collaborative projects with OILab investigate platforms like 8chan and YouTube's content moderation challenges.
He contributes to research teams at the Institute of Network Cultures and OILab, focusing on digital antagonism and viral media. Current work extends analyses of far-right digital strategies into broader questions about memory and technological form in networked cultures.
