Prof. Dr. Jack Middelburg is a full professor and head of the Department of Earth Sciences at Utrecht University. His research spans biogeochemistry, marine ecology, and Earth system sciences, focusing on carbon and nitrogen cycling across terrestrial-aquatic continua, sediment diagenesis, and climate change feedbacks. He has published extensively on topics including organic matter dynamics, carbon sequestration, and ocean alkalinity regulation.
